At TaylorMade, we’re always chasing ways to help you play more consistent, more confident golf. And sometimes, the biggest breakthroughs come from the smallest discoveries.
That’s exactly what happened with the all-new TP5 and TP5x — two golf balls played by the world’s best that address a problem golfers could never see.
During development, our R&D team used micromeasurement tools and the most advanced testing range in the world (The Kingdom) to examine every detail of how golf balls behave in flight. What we found surprised even us: traditional paint processes can create microscopic inconsistencies.
Standard finishing processes allow excess paint to pool at the bottom of dimples, creating an uneven surface that subtly changes how air flows around the ball. That inconsistency can translate to significant variations in peak height, distance, curvature, and wind performance.
If you’ve ever hit two “perfect” shots that didn’t perform the same… this could be why.
MICROCOATING SOLVES WHAT WAS ONCE AN INVISIBLE PROBLEM
So, we rebuilt the paint process from scratch.
Our new microcoating technology precisely controls atomization, cure times, and temperature—down to the onemillionth of a gram of how much paint is applied to each ball. The outcome is an ultrathin, even application across the entire ball, eliminating the issues caused by pooling paint.
For you, that means:
- More predictable ball flight
- More consistent peak height trajectories
- Reliable performance in the wind
- Ball-to-ball consistency you can actually trust
This is one of the most meaningful leaps in golf ball performance we've ever made - because it affects every full shot you hit.
Check out the video below for an even more in-depth look at how microcoating works and how it can benefit your game.
TP5 is our softest five-layer Tour ball—and now it’s faster than ever.
With our largest Tour core to date, TP5 increases energy retention at impact to generate more ball speed on full swings. It also features an updated Tour Flight Dimple Pattern with reengineered dimples that promote a lower, more penetrating ball flight with reduced ballooning in the wind.
It’s no surprise that players like Rory McIlroy — the reigning Champion at Augusta and winner of the career Grand Slam — has already switched into the 2026 TP5.
If you want max speed and penetrating ball flight, TP5x is your ball.
We reengineered the mantle system with firmer materials and optimized layers, giving TP5x the fastest speeds in our lineup with low driver spin and plenty of greenside control thanks to the ultrathin cast urethane cover.
TP5 VS. TP5X: WHICH ONE FITS YOUR GAME?
Below is a simple side-by-side comparison to help you quickly understand the differences between the TP5 and TP5x.
We continue to offer the most advanced visual technologies in the game: TP5 and TP5x Stripe and pix™.
TP5 and TP5x Stripe have been redesigned with a new Tour Stripe with 360° Tour ClearPath Alignment™ that includes tighter feedback lines, and a new performance dot to help you achieve hyperfocus on the greens and hole more putts.
We also feature full customization options via MySymbol, plus officially licensed NFL and collegiate designs.
THE BOTTOM LINE
You deserve a golf ball that performs exactly the way it’s designed to—shot after shot. With microcoating and our most advanced five-layer constructions yet, the new TP5 and TP5x are the most consistent Tour balls we’ve ever made.
