Golf's first major of the year is the most storied event in the sport — and for Team TaylorMade, 2026 is shaping up to be a remarkable run in Augusta. Six TaylorMade athletes are set to compete: world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, defending champ Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, and rookies Jacob Bridgeman and Casey Jarvis.
Courtesy of our friend Rick Gehman (@rickrungood), here's a deep dive into the stats that matter most, plus a full look at what each athlete is carrying in their Season Opener golf bag. All WITB is subject to change and we will keep you updated on any storylines as they develop.

RORY'S MOMENTUM ROLLS ON
Rory McIlroy enters this year’s first major as a defending champion — having claimed his victory at this tournament in 2025 to complete the career Grand Slam. He is also one of the most statistically decorated players in the history of the event, and with more top-10 finishes than anyone who debuted after 1995.
- Rory is fourth all-time in Strokes Gained on par threes (+28.92) and sixth all-time in Strokes Gained on par fours.
- On par fives, Rory is -107 carding 15 eagles and 105 birdies with only 22 bogeys or worse. He is one of only 15 golfers to play the par fives at least 100 under.
- He avoids bogey on par threes at a rate of 82.66% — the best in tournament history among players with at least 35 rounds. Par threes are often the difference-maker at this course, and McIlroy dominates them.
- He has eight top-10 finishes at this tournament, the most of anyone who made their debut after 1995.
- Since 2019, Rory has averaged the second most Strokes Gained Off-the-Tee.
- Rory and Scottie have positive Strokes Gained Off-the-Tee in 83.3% of their rounds, which is the most in the stat tracking era.
- On hole 4, Rory has gained 14.56 strokes which is the most of anyone in this years field and the third most since 1986.

SCOTTIE BEING SCOTTIE
If you want to understand why Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite at the first major of the year, start with this: he has won two of his six career starts at the Augusta tournament — a win rate that stands alone in the history of the event.
- Scottie is first all-time in Strokes Gained Per Round (minimum of 20 rounds).
- Since 2019, Scottie has accumulated the most Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green (+63.67).
- He has been under-par in 75 percent (18-of-24) of his career rounds at this tournament. The next closest in that span is at 60% (!).
- Arnold Palmer and Scottie are the only two golfers to win twice and gain 60+ strokes in their first six appearances.
- Since his debut in 2020, Scottie has accumulated the second most Strokes Gained in the tournament's famously difficult Amen Corner stretch (holes 11–13).
- On the second nine, he averages +1.45 strokes over the field per round — the best rate all-time among players with 20 or more rounds at this course. On the first nine, he ranks third in score-to-par (-23).
- Scottie has never made bogey on hole No. 2 across 24 career rounds — one of only a handful of players to accomplish that feat. He also has a perfect bogey-free record on hole No. 8 in 24+ rounds.

PRECISION PLAYS IN AUGUSTA AND COLLIN HAS IT
Collin Morikawa has built a reputation as one of the most precise iron players of his generation — and at a golf course that rewards accuracy more than almost any other venue on the planet, the numbers tell a compelling story.
- Collin has the second-best non-winner scoring average in tournament history at 71.33 (minimum 20 rounds).
- He is one of just two players in tournament history to hit 75%+ of fairways and 65%+ of greens in regulation across their career at this course. Accuracy off-the-tee and on approach is the formula here — and no one does it more consistently.
- In 20 of his 24 career rounds (83.3%), Morikawa has gained strokes on approach — the highest measured rate in tournament history.
- Since 2019, he has gained +21.58 strokes on approach, the second most of anyone during that period. On a per-round average basis, he leads the field at +0.90 strokes per round gained on approaches.
- Success has come off the tee as well. He has hit 70 %+ of his fairways in all six of his career starts — tied for the most consecutive starts to accomplish that feat in tournament history.
- Among players since 2013, Morikawa ranks third in Driving Accuracy and fifth in Greens in Regulation — two of the most important underlying metrics at this course.
- In total, Collin is 16-under par across his first six starts — the fifth-best mark for any golfer's first six appearances in the history of the tournament.

TOMMY STARTS HOT
Tommy Fleetwood is one of the most unique statistical profiles in the field. His combination of power and accuracy off the tee is virtually unmatched — and his front-nine performance at this course is among the best amongst the field.
- Tommy has recorded 31 birdies (or better) on the opening three holes at this golf course since his debut in 2017 — fifth most of any player over that span
- He is the only player to average hitting at least 74% of fairways, while average more than 265 yards (his average is 298).
- Only four golfers have gained strokes off-the-tee in 80%+ of their measured rounds at this tournament. Tommy is one of them, doing so in 82.1% of his rounds. Consistent driving advantage is rare, and Fleetwood has it.
- Tommy has dominated the front nine, playing it in 22-under par across his nine career starts with 64 birdies. In the scorecard tracking era, he ranks 8th in Strokes Gained on hole No. 9, gaining 8.64 strokes and playing the hole at seven-under par.

BRIDGEMAN'S PUTTING DOMINCANCE
Jacob Bridgeman arrives at golf’s biggest major riding one of the hottest stretches of golf on the PGA TOUR this season. The young American leads the FedEx Cup standings, has already captured a victory at the Genesis Invitational, and is backed by a statistical profile that clearly explains his success in 2026.
His putting, in particular, has been on another level entirely — and at a course where reading greens and converting under pressure is often the margin between contending and fading, the numbers from his PGA TOUR season thus far tell a story that demands attention.
- No. 1 in Strokes Gained: Putting: Jacob is gaining more strokes on the greens than any other player this season with a total of 40.174 strokes gained good for an average of 1.339 (30 rounds).
- No. 1 in Putting Average: Putting average measures the number of putts per green in regulation. Jacob’s average of 1.650 is 0.10 strokes better than the tour average, which doesn’t seem like a wide margin but is the difference between 1st and 87th on overall ranking for this category.
- No. 1 in Three-Putt Avoidance: The Genesis Invitational champ enters with a major statistical advantage when it comes to three-putts. His three-putt avoidance percentage is at .52%, over 2% better than the tour average of 2.64. He has remarkably only had three total three puts this season in 576 holes.
- No. 4 in Putts Per Round: Jacob averages 27.47 putters per round this season with his lowest putting round at 23.
- No. 6 in Putting Inside 10 Feet: The 10-foot range is where birdie putts live. Jacob is converting at a rate of 91.44% (470-for-514) from the most important distance range in scoring.

MUST KNOW ROOKIE | CASEY JARVIS
Casey Jarvis is the compelling newcomer in the group. The young South African earned his invitation to golf's first major via his win at the Investec South African Open — one of two victories in his remarkable 2026 season.
- Par fives are often where this tournament is decided. The top-10 finishers since 2021 have each gained more than 2 strokes against the field on par fives. Casey’s par-five scoring average this season is 4.51 — approximately 0.11 strokes better than the DP World Tour average, a meaningful edge.
- The most common approach yardage at this course falls between 150–175 yards. In that range over the last six months, Casey has hit 87% of greens in regulation. The course average for greens hit is 66%.
- Approach play is ranked as one of the strongest parts of Casey's game, checking in at 7th on the DP World Tour in Strokes Gained: Approach this season. If the data translates to Augusta, his precision from 150–175 yards could be a decisive advantage.
