Minnesota has always been a state shaped by what it endures.
Half the year, the lakes freeze. The temperature drops below zero and stays there. The Northwoods empty of tourists, and the people who stay learn to live with cold. It's not a hardship. It's an identity. And out of that identity, a culture took shape. Generations of hockey players raised on backyard rinks. Folktales spun around wood stoves. A state whose pride has never needed translation.
The Women's Professional Championship arrives in that very place. Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska welcomes the game's biggest stage to a state that knows what it means to host a championship. And TaylorMade arrives with a collection built in the spirit of the place itself, layered with detail, rooted in heritage, and unmistakably tied to Minnesota.
Welcome to the Midnight Ice Collection.
THE STAFF BAG: A HOCKEY SWEATER BUILT FOR THE FAIRWAY
Designing a commemorative staff bag is the easy part. Designing one that captures the essence of the the state hosting it is the tougher assignment.
TaylorMade's design team approached the Midnight Ice staff bag the way a hockey sweater itself is built: silhouette first, story second, every panel accountable to the heritage it carries. The result is a bag that doesn't reference hockey from the outside. It is hockey, translated into the language of a staff bag.
The body draws its silhouette from a hockey sweater. Deep purple body panels meet lavender side panels, framed by white piping and finished with hardware to match. The number "79" sits on the side panel where a player's number belongs; a quiet tribute to the year TaylorMade was founded and the generations of sweaters that have carried numbers like it onto the ice.
Look closer and Minnesota reveals itself one detail at a time. Time Common Loon, the state bird, perches above the front pocket. On the opposite side, "M·N" appears on the topside valuables pocket along with a TaylorMade logo and shining star. The Northwoods unfold below in an embroidered silhouette. A pair of axes flank the bag handle, a quiet tribute to Paul Bunyan, whose tales first took root in the Minnesota Northwoods more than a century ago. And along the bottom collar, "Land of 10,000 Rinks" runs in repeating script. A fitting play on the state's most familiar nickname.
Open any pocket and the Northwoods continue inside. A flannel-lined interior in the black and white plaid hints at the shirts hanging in every Minnesota mudroom. It's the kind of detail you don't see at first. It's the kind of detail that makes the bag what it is.
THE HEADCOVERS: EVERY CLUB EARNS ITS CHAPTER
Where the staff bag tells the story of a state, the Midnight Ice headcovers tell the story of hockey in the Northwoods.
The driver headcover wears the painted shell of a goalie mask, anchored by the same Common Loon and Northwoods that run through the staff bag. The visual echo ties the lineup back to the bag it sits in. It's a headcover designed to be the first thing your eye finds when you walk up to the tee.
The fairway wood headcover channels the striped knit of a hockey sock, finished with a pom in the collection's signature purples. Pulled straight from the kit a player would lace up before stepping onto the ice, it's the most tactile piece in the collection.
The hybrid headcover borrows the look of a taped stick. Wrapped and ready for battle on the ice. A working-class tribute to the most fundamental tool in the sport.
The mallet headcover renders a full rink in miniature. Boards, blue lines, red line, net, puck. The full hockey experience, captured in a piece small enough to sit on top of your putter. It's the most ambitious headcover in the collection, and it's the only one that makes clear how seriously the design team took this assignment.
The blade headcover closes the lineup with a laced skate, captured in the moment before it hits the ice. It's a quieter piece than the mallet, but no less specific. A tribute to the equipment but started it all.
Together, the five headcovers form a lineup that doesn't just commemorate a championship. It tells the story of a game and state that are so closely intertwined.
THE FINAL CHAPTER
The Midnight Ice Collection arrives at a moment worth marking. The Women's Professional Championship is coming to Minnesota, and this collection was created to meet it. The staff bag and the headcovers were not designed as souvenirs. They were designed as tributes, shaped by the same heritage that has shaped the state itself.
TaylorMade has always believed that the gear in your bag tells a story. The Midnight Ice Collection tells the story of Minnesota in a language the state speaks fluently. The language of the rink. The language of the Northwoods. The language of the long winter nights that give this collection its name.
