In a bold move to further elevate her game, Nelly Korda, one of the brightest stars in professional golf, recently made the decision to switch to the TP5 ball. This significant equipment change marks a crucial step in her journey towards achieving greatness. Let's delve into the captivating story behind Nelly’s switch and how she meticulously tested and chose the TP5 as her ultimate companion on the course.
The Quest for Improvement
When Nelly joined Team TaylorMade, the equipment testing process kicked off with a focus on golf ball. It was the first area of exploration, and a critical decision that would impact every club her bag. “We focused on ‘What can we improve?’ and right out the gate, we knew golf ball was a difference maker for us,” says Ryan Ressa, TaylorMade Senior Tour Representative.
Testing the Waters
To find the perfect fit, Nelly tested both models in the TP5 series. Initially, she experimented with the lower spin TP5x, which offered a flatter ball flight. While she was enticed by its characteristics, Nelly discovered that she desired a softer feel around the greens without compromising her ability to control the ball. This led her to try the TP5, which intrigued her with its exceptional performance in the short game.
Mastering the Feel
Fine-tuning the feel of speed putts was an essential aspect of Nelly's testing process. Ressa highlighted, "For her, the sound she hears equates to what she feels, and that slightly softer TP5 was the sweet spot." The TP5's soft cast urethane cover also provided increased greenside spin, empowering Nelly with enhanced control and precision within 100 yards of the pin.
Unleashing the Power
TP5's technological prowess played a significant role in Nelly's decision. With an expanded core designed for increased speed, the TP5 unleashes a spring-like effect that translates into fast ball speeds and amplified distances. This boost in power became a welcomed advantage in Nelly's game.
Perfecting the Long Ball
Now knowing that TP5 was the choice around the greens, Nelly proceeded to test the ball with her driver and irons. For her, it was a welcomed surprise to that the slight uptick in spin yielded positive results. When it came to the driver, Nelly sought a draw shape while maintaining carry distance. The increase in spin facilitated both objectives, as the ball stayed in the air longer, maximizing distance.
Elevating Iron Play
The combination of TP5 with Nelly's irons proved to be a revelation. In her long irons (5-6), Nelly aimed to add height to hold greens from distances of 190-210 yards. The P·770 irons seamlessly answered this requirement, providing an additional 15 feet in height and delivering perfect carries when paired with the TP5. The pairing with P·7MC irons also impressed Nelly with tighter dispersion and precise distance control.
The Words of a Rep
"She's so unique and determined to do everything in her life at the championship level, and that inspires our team to be great, so that she can accomplish everything she aims for. Nelly is preparing to win major championships, ideally we're giving her equipment to be aggressive from tee to green, and no component is more important than the golf ball.”

A Steadfast Partnership
Nelly's relentless pursuit of greatness and her unwavering commitment to excellence resonated with TaylorMade. Ressa further noted, "Our aim is to help her achieve her goals of becoming the best players of all time, period, on the men or women’s side. She was already playing at an extremely high level, and the fact that she chose to switch speaks to her belief in our process and that we can help her get to the next level.”
