Team TaylorMade was out in full force at Pebble Beach this week with Rory, Scottie, Tommy, Collin, Kurt and Taylor all preparing for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. Our content team was there too capturing the squad’s prep from every angle. Here are the most notable things we saw this week.

First, here are some of the best photos our creators captured while on the beautiful grounds of Pebble Beach.

We parked our cameras on the 18th hole on Monday and Tuesday, plus put a drone in the skies of Pebble Beach to show how Team TaylorMade used their Qi10 drivers to take on one of the most famous holes in golf. Check it out below.

RORY TALKS HIS NEW TP5x

At the start of his season at the Dubai Invitational, Rory McIlroy debuted a new TP5x golf ball. After finishing tied for second in that tournament, the very next week at the Dubai Desert Classic, Rory won in just his second start with his new ball.

In testing with our TaylorMade reps, Rory not only picked up speed with his driver, but gained nearly a half club more distance with his irons. This week in his news conference, Rory dished on why he made the switch.

It’s fast. It’s a really, really fast golf ball. I definitely feel like I’ve picked up speed with it, especially off the tee. I like to play a low spin ball but not so low spin that when you’re hitting a 7-iron or something into the green that you can’t hold it. A very comfortable shot for me at the minute is sort of hitting this like hold-off sort of cut. The fact that it doesn’t spin too much when I hit that shot I really like because I’ve always had this fear with whatever golf ball that I’ve played that if I hit that shot, there’s a tendency to come up short because it spins a little too much. I don’t really have that fear with this golf ball, which is a really nice feeling.
Rory McIlroy

From a fitters perspective, here is the scoop from our Senior Tour Manager Adrian Rietveld on how this ball will help Rory at Pebble.

“The new TP5x will be huge this week for Rory if it’s windy as it is projected to be. This ball doesn’t have a lot of lift in it which would exaggerate spin in such conditions. Rory has enough speed that the ball stays in the air through spin. Lift doesn’t necessarily mean it’s up 90°, it means that if the axis on the ball is tilted in a draw or a fade it’s going to lift in that direction which makes it move more in the win. Rory’s ball is designed to not move a lot. Plus, it’s so good around the greens. Many of our players, including Rory can’t believe the change of this new TP5x compared to the previous model in chipping and pitching while also not giving anything up in terms of speed.”
Adrian Rietveld, Senior Tour Manager

THE MANY IMPACT POSITIONS OF TEAM TAYLORMADE

Some of the best photos our creators get are the ridiculously athletic positions our athletes are at impact. Against the canvas of Pebble, let’s take a look at the differences of our squad at impact.
