TaylorMade Gear

At TaylorMade, we’ve called 2024 the Year of the Spider. And with good reason; world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler used his Spider Tour X L-Neck putter to capture seven PGA TOUR wins and a gold medal. Rory McIlroy also won back-to-back titles at the Zurich Classic and Wells Fargo Championship, and claimed victory three times worldwide with the Spider Tour X. In all, Spider putters have won 14 times (so far) on the PGA TOUR this season, which is the most of any putter model.

TaylorMade TP5 (the softest five-layer Tour ball) and TP5x (the fastest five-layer Tour ball) also claimed their fair share of victories in 2024, highlighted by Nelly Korda’s six wins on the LPGA Tour and all three of Rory’s worldwide victories.

But TP5 and TP5x just got a whole lot better. They’re now available with 360° ClearPath Alignment™ to help golfers of all abilities aim putts more accurately, consistently, and faster than ever before.

TP5 TP5x Stripe Family

In this article, we’re going to take a close look at all the performance benefits Spider Tour putters and TP5 and TP5x Stripe golf balls offer, and how you can use them to become a boss on the moss.

TP5/TP5x STRIPE AND SPIDER TOUR WORKING TOGETHER

It’s no coincidence that TP5 and TP5x Stripe are such a lethal combination in helping you achieve your full potential on the greens. Each possesses cutting-edge technologies that not only optimize performance and feel, but also simplify the putting process through alignment features that make it easy to aim square to the target every time.

As Chris Trott explains in the following video, TP5 and TP5x Stripe and Spider Tour putters let you achieve the following in both play and practice:

    • Build confidence watching the ball roll end over end
    • Use a chalk line on a straight putt to dial in the path of your stroke
    • Aim breaking putts more accurately
    • Perfect eye positioning

THE EVOLUTION OF VISUAL ALIGNMENT TECHNOLOGY

Wanting to further set ourselves apart from the competition in terms of visual technology, we partnered with Rickie Fowler to create our pix™ 2.0 golf balls in 2020. Unlike the original pix balls, pix 2.0 utilized a single TaylorMade logo and TP5/TP5x stamp in positions that formed a natural pathway through the center of the ball and the 12 pix logos. ClearPath Alignment was born.

“The pix graphics give you a precise focal point to work with. When we started developing the new design, one of my first comments was if we didn’t have the full TaylorMade logo in two places, we would have space to create a path that works for alignment and feedback.”
Ricky Fowler

Following in Rickie’s footsteps, Tommy Fleetwood switched to the TP5x pix ball with ClearPath Alignment at the Zozo Championship in October of 2021 and found success. Since then, he’s had his TP5x pix #19 ball in the bag.

360° CLEARPATH ALIGNMENT

Drawing inspiration from the pix 2.0 design, Tour Response Stripe™ golf balls were the first to feature 360° ClearPath Alignment. It proved so popular that we decided to incorporate it into our premium Tour balls as well, TP5 and TP5x. Simply put, 360° ClearPath Alignment is a digital band that wraps around the entire ball with a thin black line in the middle to match the sightline on Spider Tour putters.

SPIDER TOUR X TRUE PATH ALIGNMENT

Spider Tour putters incorporate True Path™ Alignment in their design. Much like ClearPath Alignment, True Path Alignment presents itself as a white alignment feature on top of Spider Tour putters with a thin black sightline in the middle.

By aligning the black line on TP5 and TP5x Stripe with the black sightline on Spider Tour putters, you give yourself a crystal clear visual of where both your ball and the putter face are aimed. All that’s left is to do is gauge the speed. You’ve effectively taken all the guesswork out of alignment!

Watch as our very own Chris Trott demonstrates below.

“Most amateurs don’t know where they’re aiming on the putting green. True Path Alignment on the Spider Tour X makes it so much easier because it’s a continuation of the line from the ball to the hole and back again... If everyone can get aligned properly then all they have to focus on is how hard to hit the putt.”
Rory McIlroy

STABILITY AND IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK WITH TP5 AND TP5X STRIPE AND SPIDER

Making solid contact with your putts is paramount if you’re going to see the ball go in the hole consistently. TP5 and TP5x golf balls and Spider Tour putters are both designed to help you do just that.

Spider Tour putters deliver high MOI and provide plenty of stability during the stroke. This not only helps golfers make solid contact more often, but it provides ample forgiveness on putts that are struck off-center.

The 360° ClearPath Alignment of TP5 and TP5x Stripe gives you feedback on the quality of your putt the instant the ball leaves the putter face.

A well-struck putt will have the stripe rolling end over end, just like in the video below.

Conversely, a putt that’s struck out of the heel or the toe with a clubface that’s open or closed is going to impart sidespin on the ball. In this case, you’ll receive immediate feedback as the stripe will wobble.

“The reason golfers have fallen in love with the 360° ClearPath Alignment stripe is because it really allows them to lock in on their target from behind the ball. The immediate feedback about how the golf ball rolls is pivotal as well."
– Michael Fox, Senior Director of Product Creation, Golf Ball

PREMIUM SOUND AND FEEL

When you hit a putt out of the center of the face, there’s a certain sound and feel that lets you know you’ve made a pure stroke. TP5 and TP5x Stripe balls and Spider Tour putters are both designed to deliver the responsive sound and feel discerning players demand.

The five layers in both TP5 and TP5x work in conjunction to deliver a soft, responsive feel giving golfers precise feedback and control on the greens. At the same time, Spider Tour putters employ a HYBRAR ECHO® Damper that sits behind the clubface to minimize vibrations and dampen the sound on every putt.

Putting can be one of the most frustrating parts of the game, but it doesn’t have to be. TP5 and TP5x Stripe golf balls and Spider Tour putters are both designed to not only make guessing about where you’re aimed a thing of the past, but to deliver the consistent performance and feel you need to start making more putts, shooting lower scores, and having more fun out on the course.
